The highest Civilian Award of India Bharat Ratna , The Jewel of India instituted from 1945 rewarded for exceptional performance of highest order. With no boundaries set it includes all the fields for achievements in Arts, Literature, Science etc. The nominees are recommended by Prime Minister and President. Only three people are honoured with Bharat Ratna every year, Presented by the President of India. The award can also be presented to non-Indians. Two non- Indians who had this opportunity were Abdul Ghaffar Khan of Pakistan and Nelson Mandela of South Africa.
